1. Khor Virap Monastery

   • What you will see: A monastery that sits at the base of the biblical Mount Ararat. This location provides the nearest vantage point to the mountain, showcasing stunning views perfect for photography.

   • History: You have the chance to enter the deep underground dungeon where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was held for 13 years before Armenia became the first country to embrace Christianity.

2. Areni-1 Cave (Birds’ Cave)

   • Discoveries: An archaeologist's paradise. This location is home to the world's oldest leather shoe (over 5,500 years old) and the earliest known winery (6,100 years old).

   • Atmosphere: A stroll through the cave chambers where ancient clay vats (karases) used for storing wine and grain remain intact.

3. Noravank Monastery Complex

   • Architecture: A true gem of medieval Armenian architecture, located between towering red cliffs. The main two-story church (Surb Astvatsatsin) is renowned for its slender, railing-free external stone staircase.

   • Aesthetics: The striking contrast between the monastery's golden-orange stone and the blazing red mountains at sunset is regarded as one of Armenia's most stunning views.
